Believe it if you need it. . .

BTW, are you aware that "Day Job" is the only song the boys dropped from rotation at the request of fans?

Lot's of folks proclaiming to be Christian, born again... this or that. My take is that only God knows your heart.
The rest is hearsay-imho.
It's what you do in private with no one watching, or trying impress with ones "holiness" and tossing scripture about.

As the song says: "Mr. Charlie told me so."
I wasn't sure I was going to chime in on this, but since you've broken the ice, I'll back you up. My personal faith is just that, personal. I know and respect that many others gladly wear their's on the outside and take pride in sharing their beliefs. Again, I respect that, but in some cases in can also intimidate those who don't agree because they feel that if they come out against another's pronouncement of faith they may be derided or labeled as "unfeeling", or lacking spiritual depth. In a forum such as this where we want to encourage all people to engage equally and without any trepidation, perhaps discussions of relegious faith may best be taken up elsewhere. Again, I am not making any judgments against anyone for what they believe in; faith in anything is sorely lacking in today's world, but I'm just commenting on it's place here. Feel free to disagree with me if you wish, I wouldn't have posted this if I wasn't ready for some point/counterpoint.

I am struggling with this post and having a hard time containing myself. I agree that this is not a "religious" forum however, if people are going to post things about God, the Bible, "Jerry Christ" (not), faith, or whatever your personal belief is, then be prepared to get some feedback. "If any man among you, got no sin upon your hand, then let him cast a stone at me for posting in the forum". Would love to answer, debate, discuss, converse, share, with anyone about what the Bible says, and the Lord Jesus Christ. "Once in a while you get shown the light (Jesus is the light of the world), in the strangest of places (this forum), if you look at it right. God bless you all.

Not at all to poke fun at anything or anyone, but this hit me as particularly insightful/funny. Lewis Black was commenting on the rejection of the Torah by Christians with the New Testament:
"We've got a better book with a better character, you're gonna love it!".
Many people forget that the "Old Testament" is a term that refers to all versions and translations of the Hebrew Bible.
Further, Black, who is Jewish, encourages Christians to ask Jews for help in interpreting the bible. “There are Jews who walk among you, and they will - I promise you
this - take time out of their very Jewy, Jewy day…
and interpret for you anything that you’re having
trouble understanding.”

OK, I'm done, I promise. I have put my stuff out there, but will not address this topic again, I swear.

That is your interpetation of the song, your opinion of Jesus.
It seems to me, most every religion has it's followers that believe their version IS the correct one. To me, that is a very smug view-I'm right, you're wrong.
In YOUR opinion, Jesus is the light of the world-don't assume it's true-truth (ha!), it's just true to you & followers of Christianity. Might i add....imho

As the one who knocked on the door. . .

I agree that it is personal. Bottom line for me is compassion. The golden rule (not he who has the gold, rules, but the other version) pretty much sums it up for me. The rest is all speculation and we'll all know soon enough.

. . . The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out,
The worms play pinochle on your snout . . .

Yeah, I see that as a real problem. I agreed with Weir when he said in 95 "F@#k the religious right". or as HUNTER put it
"That path is for your steps alone."
I just don't find much skill in that particular Zappa lyrics whether they were from Zappa or the Pope, now I have not heard the tune maybe it just kills,

One of my all time favorite Zappa songs. How about the better half? The song the "meek shall inherit nothing" goes into " dumb all over" here ya go. Take it away Frank!

Whoever we are
Wherever we're from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
Than tryin' to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it the earth
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
'cause we behave the same...
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near 'n far
Dumb all over,
Black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religous fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin' the bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
'bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Don't believe in the book
We got over here

You can't run a race
Without no feet
'n pretty soon
There won't be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religous fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(i mean it won't blow up
'n disappear
It'll just look ugly
For a thousand years...)

You can't run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

To arms! to arms!
Hooray! that's great

Two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (get down!)
Not his, not hers, (but what the hey?)
The good book says:
("it gotta be that way!")
But their book says:
"revenge the crusades...
With whips 'n chains
'n hand grenades..."
Two arms? two arms?
Have another and another
Our god says:
"there ain't no other!"
Our god says
"it's all okay!"
Our god says
"this is the way!"

It says in the book:
"burn 'n destroy...
'n repent, 'n redeem
'n revenge, 'n deploy
'n rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'cause they don't go for what's in the book
'n that makes 'em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice french bomb
To poof them out of existance
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise our god
("cause he can really take care of business!")

And when his humble tv servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blond wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our god says
It's okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
'cause if we don't do it,
We ain't gwine up to hebbin!
(depending on which book you're using at the
Time...can't use theirs... it don't work
...it's all lies...gotta use mine...)
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night...
Every day...
Hey, we can't really be dumb
If we're just following god's orders
Hey, let's get serious...
God knows what he's doin'
He wrote this book here
An' the book says:
He made us all to be just like him,"
So...
If we're dumb...
Then god is dumb...
(an' maybe even a little ugly on the side)

Agreed.

I just wonder if you shouldn't feel
less concern about the deep unreal
The very first word is : How do you do?
The last: go home, your mama's callin you
